Position Description

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University is embarking on the accreditation and development of a next generation medical school designed to train students to be physician leaders, who innovate, adapt and discover in an ever changing healthcare landscape. The School is now inviting applications for the position of Clinical Education Specialist who will join the Medical Education and Clinical Sciences team in leading the college into the future.

The Clinical Education Specialist will provide educational resources for faculty and students and serve as liaison for medical students in clinical settings with regard to education quality and effectiveness in collaboration with the Clinical Education Directors in the Medical Education & Clinical Sciences Department. The incumbent will provide expertise and assistance to other curriculum units as requested, including, but not limited to, writing of patient cases and examination questions, training of standardized patients, and participating in small group sessions. S/he will also serve as a clinical resource for students throughout the medical education continuum.

The College
The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is Washington’s premier community-based medical school. It is named after the university’s late president, Elson S. Floyd. Dr. Floyd believed that Washington State University, as the state’s land-grant institution, should train doctors to serve all of Washington.

The mission of the School is to: Develop practical solutions to challenging problems in disease prevention, health care access and delivery; Train primary care physicians who will work in Washington and help alleviate a shortage of doctors, especially in rural and under-served areas; and Develop a strong research component, with faculty members who work on innovative projects, sharing what they know with students in classroom and research settings.

Required Qualifications:

• An ARNP, PA or equivalent and five (5) years of clinical experience, preferably with educational responsibility.
• Experience providing patient centered care in a clinical setting.
• Experience with medical information search and retrieval and its use in evidence based learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the development of medical education curriculum.
• Experience conducting or providing direct support of clinical and/or educational research.
• Experience implementing vertical and horizontally integrated medical education curriculum.
• Experience providing patient centered care as a licensed provider in the clinical medical setting including the use of certified electronic health record s y s t e m.
• Experience with clinical simulations and their use in medical education.
• Experience in teaching professional competence.
• Research and / or publication experience.
